ahhhh summer
As I move out of what was probably the worst living situation of my life, (and yes I spent three years in Montclaire and one time I slept under Johann’s bed for a semester) I still have yet to enter the summer mode. You know, the mode where you don’t know what day it is and you wake up really late and then eat dinner as your first meal. See that’s the shit I’ve been missing. I don’t think I’ve had a real summer in probably hmmmm 6 years. I did too many stupid internships, or stupid summer jobs. I did go on tour that one time, and that was fun, but also stressful because I had no money and had just graduated, so I was still preoccupied in my mind.
BUT NOW, as soon as I move out of this concrete abomination I will enter into ultimate summer mode. I will not have a job. I will not have an internship. Hell, I won’t even be living in the United States! There’s a scene in Office Space when they ask the main character what he would do if he won the lottery and he replies “Nothing”. Best response ever. I hope to do NOTHING this summer. I plan to go to a beach, read some comic books, and maybe play soccer, and watch the world cup. That’s all. If that isn’t the best thing ever, well you have something wrong with you. but, I actually do have one goal.
With Lost ending, (which I never watched except for the last season but spent countless hours of work reading about every episode and pretty much understood everything) I need a new “show”. Having a show is something special. It becomes part of your life. You work your way through the seasons as if they are episodes in your life. You learn to love/emulate/mimic characters. For a short span of your life that show represents who you were at that time in your life. I’ve had Scrubs, Arrested Development, Sopranos, The O.C. to name a few. So I’ve downloaded the entire first season of Modern Family. It has been recommended by nearly every friend I have and the insist it is a high quality televised work that should be watched in its entirety. So here’s to the summer. Here’s to a new show. Here’s to nothing!
